Ameen Berjis

Bio

Ameen is an 11th grade student who is passionate about youth mentorship and well-being. He is particularly motivated by having a significant impact in underserved communities and creating positive spaces for youth that mirror the strength and potential in each individual. His mentorship focus areas include teen wellbeing in online spaces and mental health for teens with life-threatening food allergies. As a Headstream Youth 2 Innovator Leader, Ameen co-authored an article for YR Media about how HX provides the opportunity to make a positive impact on teens in a digital world. Ameen is currently developing an app to provide teens with a digital space for inspiration and mentorship.

Andrew Hou

Andy is a lover of Chinese idioms, Chilean slang, computational linguistics, magical realism, and much more, Andy plans to pursue an A.B. in computer science at Princeton beginning in fall 2024. As they find their niche in language preservation and revitalization, Andy invites you to join them in the spring—window open well before sunrise—in listening for new melodies in each day’s dawn chorus, ephemeral as they may be.

Ariana Walcott (she/her) is a high school senior from Brooklyn, New York, who is interested in majoring in computer science. She is an Afro-Latino 🇵🇦 who plans to enter the gaming industry, making waves as a Game Developer and, later, a Creative Director. She is passionate about using design and technology to improve the environment and community. She is also passionate about educating in non-traditional settings, teaching at Google Next and Blissful Us, where she will assume the Director of Cryptography workshops position in the summer, creating an engaging and creative curriculum.

Ashmita Annamalai is a mental health and suicide prevention advocate, channeling her efforts into various initiatives as a leader, speaker, writer, and journalist. She is intrigued by the intersection between humanities, social science, and medicine, and she hopes to integrate the depth of these fields into her future studies of neuroscience. Her love of artistic expression fuels her passion for dance and her appreciation of all other art forms.

Christopher is a current freshman at the University of Pennsylvania planning on majoring in Economics with minors in Statistics and Urban Real Estate and Development. He was born and raised in Far Hills, NJ, where I attended Delbarton School, and previously worked with Headstream in 2022. Some fun facts about Christopher: He loves hockey, tennis, and skiing. Cynthia Arenas is a senior in high school from Portland, Oregon! She is extremely passionate about coding and innovation and will be continuing my education at Harvey Mudd College this upcoming full pursuing a degree in computer science. Cynthia is beyond excited to be a part of the Co-Creator Club and improve the world of mental health digitally. When she is not coding up some games-- you can find Cynthia on the tennis court with her family, reading a good book, or exploring cute boba shops!

Denver Humphrey is an athlete, artist, musician, philanthropist, and storyteller. Co-founder of a nonprofit called Fourddo. She is extremely passionate about advocating for youth empowerment and marginalized communities. Her hobbies include reading, writing, baking a good brownie, cooking any pasta, and learning new instruments.

Bio

At the age of 14, Devin Moore became the Founder of Race To Speak Up, an anti-bullying organization, where he educates youth about bullying prevention and empowers them to be upstanders. Devin is a first-time Author of the Devin Speaks Up! children’s anti-bullying book. Devin is a Psychology major and Nonprofit Leadership minor at the University of Maryland.

At Headstream, Emily hopes to use her love for poetry to intersect the artivist and digital worlds.

Joseph Arujo is a Latino mental-health activist and content creator based in Los Angeles, CA. From fashion and lifestyle, to comedy, travel, culture, and advocating for a variety of social causes, Joseph is uniting his online community and making a mark on the world. He is also an Advisory Board Member to Lady Gaga’s Born This Way Foundation and is committed to the foundation's principles of building a kinder and braver world.

José Caballero is a sophomore at Columbia University, concentrating in Cognitive Science. He is passionate about multicultural intersectionality, along with the intersection of mental health lived experience, research, and storytelling. Jose's leadership and lived experiences have been applauded by leading mental health nonprofits, as well as featured on USA Today and ABC News. In his free time, he listens to Beyoncé and Taylor Swift.

Maryam Zoweil is an Egyptian-American senior in High School in Austin, Texas. She is most passionate about utilizing social entrepreneurship and data science to empower youth and promote social change in our society. Outside of school, Maryam has contributed to several equity-centered design and intercultural understanding initiatives, including her roles as a Council Member in Austin's Youth Climate Equity Council, Youth Advisor in Headstream's '22 Co-Creator club, and Director of Education Data Analytics at Institute for Youth in Policy.

Tatiwyat Buck (she/her) is a young Indigenous woman from the Wanapum Tribe and Yakama Nation in Washington State. She grew up in her home village along the Columbia River and is a rising sophomore at The Northwest School in Seattle. Tatiwyat is creative and loves to dream and design ways to improve people’s lives. In particular, she is passionate about supporting the health and well-being of diverse Indigenous communities and fostering the mental health of athletes. Tatiwyat is also a dedicated soccer player and aspires to become an orthopedic surgeon specializing in sports medicine

Tanvi Kale

I'm a high school senior from Sammamish, WA. In my free time, I love playing badminton and tennis, analyzing movies, and listening to music. I'm also super interested in anatomy and psychology, which is why I was drawn to Headstream. Being on the youth board was the perfect opportunity to share my perspective while learning more about health and wellness, and I'm excited to work with other advisors and contribute to such amazing innovations!

Shagun is a technology enthusiast, social activist, and community leader. Her passion lies in the intersection between computer science, business, and public policy. Maya Dummett, a First-Year at Harvard College, is an award-winning coder, organizer, advocate, and force for change from Morristown, New Jersey. Maya is passionate about using the intersection of computer science and government as a vehicle for social good and social justice. Maya advocates for various causes such as diversity, equity, and inclusion in STEM, politics, everyday life, and beyond.

Maryam Zoweil

I live in Austin, Texas and enjoy learning math and new languages, drawing, playing sports, and challenging myself through exploring new places and activities. My identity as a Muslim Egyptian-American and having the amazing privilege of being able to frequently travel has played a dramatic role in growing my love for learning about other cultures and allowed me to analyze the differences between a variety of nations and teen life in these distinct environments. I hope to one day create an innovation that takes advantage of technology’s growing impact on society in order to make the world more inclusive and empower passionate individuals around the globe to leave a positive impact.

Laney is an Innovative and goal-oriented teen mental health advocate, actively leading and participating in community volunteer programs and resources for teens. She is a dedicated competitive swimmer and team player skilled at leadership, communication, and conflict resolution. Also, a mother of her two cats- Wheedle and Grayman.

Kheira Bekkadja

Kheira Bekkadja has a life-long goal of working to build bridges literally by studying civil & infrastructure engineering and figuratively through de-stigmatizing mental health and youth empowerment. She strongly believes that openly talking about her mental health journey can possibly become someone else's survival guide and inspiration for them to become their wholehearted and unapologetic selves.

A generous, hardworking and easy-going incoming education major at Tufts University. I dedicate my free time helping the education of others through tutoring. I love to find ways to incorporate technology into my teaching.

Akshara Santoshkumar

Akshara Santoshkumar is a 17-year-old, first-generation Indian-American living in Fairfax, Virginia. After growing up in the Middle East, Akshara has developed a keen interest in politics and journalism. Akshara is the Outreach Director of Good for Youth, a multimedia collective that advocates for marginalized youth. Furthermore, Akshara is the editor for her school’s edition of InLight, a student-led platform for dialogue that explores cultures, lifts voices, and sheds light on injustices. Outside of the classroom, Akshara sings with the Children's Chorus of Washington.
